Frequently Asked Questions
What software do you use?
For my matte painting, illustration and concept art I mostly use Photoshop. For Camera Projections I use Cinema 4D because of it's awesome camera mapping tools. For 3D Environments I use VUE, aided by 3dsmax for various props and objects. For compositing and 2D motion work, I use After Effects.
What is the usual resolution of a painting?
I usually like to work at high resolutions (4k for instance) even when it's not required. I do this so that I can get in there and scribble and paint anything I need to. When it gets resampled down to 2k it all comes together nicely. I also paint at a higher resolution because sometimes clients might want to print it or use it for poster art.
How long does a typical painting take?
This is a very wide range. Sketches and concept work usually take from 2 hours to 2 days. Matte painting work can be from 1 day to 3 weeks depending on the resolution and detail. Obviously a futuristic city is going to take a lot longer than a sky replacement.
Do you have any training material?
Yes, take a look at the Training section - there you will find a lot of training material for Vue, Matte Painting and Concept Art.
Do you also sell prints/skins of your images?
Yes, take a look at the Store section - there you will find prints for most of my personal images.
I'm working on a personal project, can you do some work for free? I'll give you credit or back-end pay.
While I understand the importance of independent projects, and how funding is often non-existent in such cases, my time and services are not free - sorry.
